US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held their first discussion since the commencement of the West Asia war. According to US Ambassador Sergio Gor, the leaders focused on Middle East situation and the necessity of maintaining an open and secure Strait of Hormuz.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to de-escalation and diplomacy during a Rajya Sabha address, while reports indicate Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir is also engaging with Trump. Domestically, the Lok Sabha passed the Transgender Persons Amendment Bill 2026.
This legislation mandates medical certification for identity, replacing the 2019 self-identification model, and introduces graded punishments for harm. Opposition parties, including Congress and the Trinamool Congress, labelled the bill unconstitutional, citing concerns over privacy and human dignity. Transgender activists allege a lack of consultation regarding the new requirements.
Additionally, BJP spokespersons defended the government’s handling of the Ukraine crisis against opposition criticism. The Transgender Persons Amendment Bill now moves to the Rajya Sabha for further deliberation.
